Congratulations! You’ve just received your offer letter. Now you might be wondering where to go from here. Let’s take it one month at a time.
Here’s your official offer-to-arrival timeline.
| MONTH | YOUR FOCUS | KEY ACTION |
|---|---|---|
| October | Accept and gather | Accept your offer, collect documents |
| November | Get prepared | Book your room, apply for your visa, sort OSHC |
| December | Wait | Visa lodged, room booked, check your emails |
| January | Plan your move | Book flights, pack, book your airport transfer |
| February | Arrive | Check in, settle in, hit Orientation Week |
Accept the offer by following the steps provided by your university. Read the email carefully, just in case you need to provide any other documents, such as English test results.
Some universities require you to pay a tuition deposit before they release your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), so make sure you check what’s required.
Start gathering your important documents:
TIME TO THINK ABOUT YOUR NEW HOME!
And start thinking about where you want to live!
Don’t wait for your student visa to be granted to book accommodation.
Booking a room at Scape? You don’t have to put your accommodation plans on hold. If your Student Visa isn’t granted, you may be eligible for a full refund of your holding deposit, subject to the policy conditions. Check out our No Visa, No Worries policy for all the details.
READY TO FIND YOUR ROOM?
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is mandatory for most international students in Australia.
Choose a provider and a policy that covers your required stay. It’s worth checking with your university before you buy, as they might have a preferred provider.
Visit Study Australia for more information about OSHC.
The Genuine Student Requirement is an evaluation used by the Australian Department of Home Affairs for Subclass 500 student visas. It is a visa assessment that confirms your primary reason for coming to Australia is to study.
You’ll be required to:
Visit the Genuine Student Requirement page for more information.
The earlier you apply, the better! Once you have the required documents, you can apply for your Australian Student Visa (subclass 500). You will need a CoE to apply for your visa (see October steps above).
Visit the official Student Visa (subclass 500) page for requirements and application details.
So, your visa is now lodged and your room is booked! The big tasks are out of the way, and now it’s time to keep an eye on your emails for any updates.
KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR INBOX!
Make sure you respond to any requests from your university, visa authorities or accommodation provider while you wait.
Your visa has been granted; it’s time to book your flights!
Aim to arrive on or after your Scape booking start date. You can check this on your Resident Portal or via the Booking Confirmation email. Hopefully, you’ll also arrive a few days before your university’s Orientation Week. That gives you enough time to recover from the jet lag and set up your room!
Luggage allowances differ between airlines and fare types, so make sure you check before packing.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
| DO | DON’T |
|---|---|
| Pack light, breathable clothes (February is hot). | Bring bulky items. |
| Order a Scape linen pack so your bed is ready when you arrive. | Overpack your suitcase. |
| Check the official biosecurity rules before packing. | Bring food or plant items without checking the rules. |
Not sure what you can bring? Check the Australian Government’s Bringing or mailing goods to Australia guide.
Enjoy seamless transportation from the airport to your student accommodation.
Take one more thing off your arrival checklist and see how to book your airport transfer with Scape.
