Study tips for staying productive

Rather than telling yourself you’ll study for eight hours straight (which, let’s be honest probably isn’t going to happen) try breaking your day into smaller, more manageable sections.

  • Break your study day into smaller sections. Set yourself clear tasks instead of one huge goal for the entire day.

  • Try the 30-30 rule. Spend 30 minutes doing focused study with your phone and other distractions out of reach, then take a 30-minute break. Alternating between concentration and downtime can make a long study day feel much more manageable.

  • Change your study environment. Try one of the cafés or libraries above. A different setup and a little background noise can sometimes help you reset your focus.

  • Use study apps.

    • Forest – helps you stay focused by growing a virtual tree while you work.

    • Quizlet – useful for creating flashcards, revising concepts and testing your memory.

    • Pomodoro timers – divide study time into focused sessions followed by regular breaks.
