Things to Do Near UNSW

Coogee Beach

Coogee Beach is the closest and most convenient beach escapes from UNSW. The 370 bus takes 10-15 minutes. Once you’re there, you’ll find a range of cafes, restaurants and pubs nearby, so an afternoon walk/swim can turn into a full afternoon out.

Centennial Park

Located right next to UNSW, Centennial Parklands is a fantastic spot to ride a bike, have a picnic, kick a ball, or simply go on a walk. It doesn’t have to take up your whole day; it’s an easy way to just relax and switch off.

NIDA Parade Theatre

If you fancy something a little more cultural, check out one of the many excellent productions put on by NIDA. The show calendar changes throughout the year, so check what’s coming up before you go. NIDA’s 2026 Festival of Emerging Artists are a good way to see some shows free of charge!

The Ritz

For a movie night that feels like more than just a trip to the movies, visit The Ritz. This beautifully restored, heritage listed venue is fully licensed, so you can take your drink from the bar into cinema while you watch! It’s a great alternative from your usual Hoyts and Events experience. And it’s a good option when you want a movie night that feels like an actual night out.

Student tip: The Ritz offers $8 tickets for student members and $12 for students who are non-members, available every Monday.

Public Transport Around UNSW: Getting to and From the Area

Getting around Kensington and Kingsford is very straightforward, with light rail and bus services connecting the area to UNSW, Randwick, the CBD, and the eastern beaches.

There are two light rail lines traveling around UNSW:

• L2 Randwick Line travels between Circular Quay and Randwick. Travelling through the CBD, Central, Surry Hills, Moore Park and the eastern suburbs.

• L3 Kingsford Line travels between Circular Quay and outside Juniors Kingsford. Travelling through the CBD, Haymarket, Central, Surry Hills, Moore Park, Kensington, UNSW, and Kingsford.
