Eat and Drink
Gelato Messina Redfern
Messina Redfern is located on Baptist street with a 40 flavour cabinet. It serves up their signature flavours along with weekly rotating specials. Messina is Sydney's most iconic gelato shop and it's now right on your doorstep.
Doran Doran
Located in the heart of Redfern, Doran Doran is your local cafe, turned korean restaurant at night. They even have a ‘Study Dinner Plan’ where students can pre load dining credit and enjoy bonus value. No daily dinner decisions, just flexible take away or dine in options, perfect for busy weeks.
The Redfern
Your local pub. The go-to for live sports, a round of pool, and a chicken schnitzel that punches well above its price point. You can’t go wrong with a good game of footy and a pub feed.

Kwila Coffee has opened a cafe inside Revolve Gallery and Studios. Combining perfectly brewed coffee with a creative, artist-run studio and gallery. Wander around, with coffee in hand and observe the rotating art displays. A bit of a different experience to your usual coffee run.

Things to Do
Carriageworks Saturday Markets
One of Sydney's best farmers markets, held every Saturday from 8am to 1pm. The market showcases the freshest seasonal produce from local growers and producers across NSW. Everything from fresh produce to cakes and freshly cut flowers, Carriageworks market is one worth exploring.
White rabbit gallery
Free entry. One of the world's most significant collections of Chinese contemporary art, right in Chippendale on the edge of Redfern. The exhibitions are constantly changing so there is always something new to see.This one is for sure an afternoon well spent
Victoria Park
Victoria Park is a heritage listed space next door to Sydney Uni campus in camperdown. Just a 10 min walk from Redfern, this park has a public swimming pool, basketball courts and large grassy areas with tables and chairs, perfect for a study session.
Redfern Sydney Street Fair
Once a year, Redfern closes its streets entirely to cars and throws a full-day festival: live music, market stalls, pop-ups, outdoor dining, and the whole suburb coming together.
Redfern Convenience store
Midnight munchies sorted. From American and UK candy, to international snacks that are hard to find anywhere else. It's open late so your 2am study pick me up is sorted.
Centennial
Park
Centennial park is a public park known for its wide open spaces, ponds and nature. Start at Randwick gates and head clockwise on the tree-lined tracks. The total perimeter loop is around 9km, perfect for a weekend walk or bike ride. If you aren’t wanting to walk, there is also plenty of space to find a tree to sit under and open a book.
Belvoir Street Theatre
Located in Surry Hills,just minutes from Redfern. Belvoir Street Theatre stages some of Sydney's most talked-about productions, from classic to contemporary in an intimate setting. Wine bar downstairs, great show upstairs. A brilliant cheap night out if you grab student tickets too.
Getting around
Redfern Station has direct trains to Central, the Sydney CBD and beyond, making commuting simple. Plus, you’re only a 10 minute walk from the University of Sydney. Redfern isn’t just a great place to visit, it’s one of Sydney’s best suburbs to live in as a student.
