Scape Darlington is right in the centre of the popular student hub of Darlington in Sydney. There are plenty of things to see and do in the local area, as well as a variety of cafes and restaurants nearby, making it a top choice for students in Sydney. Redfern Station and Macdonaldtown Station, both of which are only a short walk away, links Scape Darlington with Circular Quay, the Sydney Opera House and Bondi.
Universities and Education
Our Darlington building is close to the heart of Sydney and conveniently close to renowned institutions like The University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
The University of Sydney is only a short 5-minute walk away, essentially making the uni our next-door neighbour. The main UTS campus located at Broadway is about a 25-minute walk away or a quick 15-minute bus trip. Nearby UTS campuses and buildings, such as Building 10 and Haymarket, are a further 5-10 minutes away.
For those studying at UNSW, head to Redfern Station or Macdonaldtown Station 5 minutes away and get a quick 5-minute train to Central Station. From there it’s about 20 minutes to the main UNSW campus by light rail.
Public transport and getting around
The closest train stations to Scape Darlington are Redfern Station and Macdonaldtown Station, both of which are only 350 metres away. One stop after Redfern Station is Central Station and that will immediately connect you to all trains conveniently servicing Sydney. All you need is an Opal travel card or a debit card and you’re free to travel all across the city using the train network.
The light rail is also located at Central Station and is connected to areas in Sydney such as Kingsford and Circular Quay. An Opal travel card or a debit card is all that’s required to use the light rail.
Buses can be found on City Rd, which is located about 800 metres away from Scape Darlington. With several different bus routes going through City Rd every day, students can travel wherever they need to go within Sydney.
Next door to Scape Darlington is Newtown, best known as the heart of Sydney’s alternative scene. From the colourful to the unconventional, Newtown is home to a thriving music, theatre, art, design, and music precinct. With an enviable range of designer boutiques, vintage stores, and specialty shops, not to mention every kind of cuisine, café, and bar you can think of, it’s almost impossible to get bored when hanging out in Newtown.
If you’re hungry for some of Sydney’s best Asian food, you can’t go wrong with Spice Alley. Located a mere 20-minute walk away on Kensington Street and next to Central Park, Spice Alley is an outdoor street-food market that takes you on a journey through the landscape of Asian cuisine from Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Vietnam and China. With South-East Asian inspired murals, bare brick walls, tables and stools everywhere, and red lanterns encircling the entire laneway, it doesn’t get any more evocative of the hectic Asian hawker culture than Spice Alley.
