Tips to alleviate stress and help you get through your exams.

While it’s natural that you may become anxious during the lead up to important exams – in fact, you’d be hard-pressed to come by someone who doesn’t stress before exams – the key is not to let that stress overwhelm you.

Exam stress can be caused by a number of factors, real or perceived, including feeling unprepared, not getting enough sleep or proper nutrition and pressure from parents or lecturers to achieve top marks.

Fortunately, there are a number of simple things you can do to alleviate stress and get you through your exams.

Get active

Try not to let exam revision take over your whole life. Continue to take time to do other things, especially activities that will relax you, such as listening to music, taking walks or catching up with friends.

Rest

Getting plenty rest during the lead up to exams, especially the night before, is a good way to reduce anxiety and stress. Being refreshed and energised will allow you to think with a lot more clarity.

Eat well

Avoid having too much coffee or fizzy drinks, as the caffeine can hype you up and adversely affect your thinking, not to mention potentially inducing anxiety. Eating well is good for your mental as well as your physical health so why not try a nutritious meal with some brain boosting ingredients.

Talk about it

The old adage that a problem shared is a problem halved is true. Chances are your friends are also feeling some pressure, so by talking things out, you can help each other overcome your anxieties and achieve the success you are looking for.
