Cleaning your apartment isn’t the most exciting thing to do in the world, we can help!

Look, cleaning your apartment isn’t the most exciting thing to do in the world, especially if you’re a uni student with plenty of other things to spend your valuable time on. But we’re willing to bet you’d much rather live in a clean and organised apartment rather than a dirty and cluttered space.

Luckily for you, we’re here to help and so here’s our guide on how to clean your apartment in a way that maximises cleanliness while wasting as little of your time as possible.

#1 Kitchen

First thing to do is to get all the dirty dishes in your apartment and give them a good wash. At the very least you should stack them in the dishwasher so that they’re out of sight. A messy kitchen is usually an indicator of how clean you are.

Next, wipe all the kitchen surfaces thoroughly. We’re talking the stove, counters, and sinks. Use either disinfectant wipes or paper towels with an all-purpose spray.

Lastly, it’s time to sweep/vacuum the floor. Be sure to clean any spots off the floor with all-purpose spray, disinfectant wipes or a good ol’ fashioned mopping. You don’t want to be stepping in week-old spilled juice now do you?

#2 Bathroom

This is perhaps the most time-consuming part of it all so let’s get straight to it. The very first thing to do is spray some toilet cleaner in your, uh, toilet. Since this requires waiting a few minutes before you can start scrubbing, you can now use this time to clean the rest of your bathroom.

Clean the counters and sinks thoroughly. If you want to do this quickly, use some disposable cleaning wipes. Otherwise use some cleaning spray. Next, use some glass cleaner to wipe the bathroom mirror, any chrome, and your shower. Speaking of shower, make sure you always use a squeegee after every shower, or use a shower spray to keep any soap scum away.

Use a vacuum to quickly suck up all the hair and dust off the floor. This will immediately make the bathroom look much cleaner and it only takes about 45 seconds. If the floor is particularly gross then you’ll have to bring out the mop.

And finally, it’s time to clean the toilet. Give the bowl a nice scrub with the toilet brush before wiping the seat and base down using either more disinfectant wipes or cleaning spray.

#3 Bedroom

The number one priority is to always make your bed. This immediately makes your room look a lot tidier. As tempting as it is to leave clothes laying around, always put away your clean laundry and make sure any dirty clothes are in a laundry hamper.

Lastly, keep your desk, nightstand and any other surfaces uncluttered. This means taking cups and mugs to the kitchen (and cleaning them there), and making sure there aren’t bits of paper laying around everywhere.

#4 Living Room

The main room where you and your guests will be spending most of your time. Make sure you declutter your sofa and any coffee or end tables you may have. And last but certainly not least, give the floor and sofa a good vacuum so that you and your guests won’t be sitting on stray sandwich crumbs or week-old dust bunnies.
