Great Ocean Road
This is one a few Scape Swanston residents will be familiar with, the gorgeous road trip down the west-side of Port Phillip Bay, home to landmarks like the 12 Apostle rock formations, Great Otway National Park and sights like Hopetoun Falls, the perfect weekend get-away spots of Torquay, Anglesea, Lorne and Aireys Inlet. You can enjoy a burger at Torquay’s Bottle of Milk, catch a wave then eat chips and gravy at Jum’s in Anglesea, whether you want to relax by the beach, or head inland for some greenery and nature walks surrounded by waterfalls.
Heading north of Melbourne less than an hour’s drive is the Macedon Ranges. There are lots of great natural spots to enjoy in the region, and during the winter Mount Macedon can even be a destination for snow! Hanging Rock is another gem in this area, located near the town of Woodend, Hanging Rock is a rock formation, former volcano-turned-bush walk which you can climb to enjoy some gorgeous views, there are also lots of nearby spots for lunch, or you can check out local wineries or breweries like the Holgate Brewhouse for some delicious beverages.
The Mornington Peninsula is located on the east-side of Port Phillip bay and is home to more beautiful views and beaches. The peninsula is known for art, local produce like wine and cheese and is a fab spot for weekend activities. You can head up the Arthur’s Seat lookout on a cable car to look across the bay, there is also a lavender farm with a cafe and a strawberry-picking farm which doubles as a cellar door for wines and cider. You can go total zen and soak the day away at the Peninsula Hot Springs, with many baths of natural hot springs, saunas, steam rooms and with optional massages, it’s perfect to bring your pals for a refreshing study break.
